Abstract
“The Progression of Neuromuscular Dentistry”
The impact of 3D technology from diagnostic to treatment.
For many years from the production of neuromuscular dentistry the jaw trackers only provided us information about the incisal edge position during a process of records collection in a sequence supported by electromyographies.
The radiographic images at the time made us create protocols to evidence specific joint positions. The limitation of understanding of what’s happening to the joints made us focus in physiological muscle reactions, but for many years as technology evolved we were able to start collecting 3D information that we used to analyze the structures tridimensionally and we got to realize that the joint diagnostic was a combination of position , shape and density.
Finally we realized that technology’s evolution was not technology itself , the real power was in the diagnostic based in 3D data integration . With the potential to focus not only on the track of the mandible that the real power was the 3D Axiography integrations. Furthermore CAD CAM technology and digital planning opened the opportunity to not only diagnose also to create simulations of treatment.
In this lecture I will present the power of the progression of technology and the application and preservation of the neuromuscular principles but taking advantage of all the new tools and procedures to complete phase II treatments.
In the presentation of these cases we will talk about the implementation of MSE maxillary rapid expansion to compensate the lack of development in the maxilla and the implementation of TADS ( temporary anchorage devices) to be able to create mechanics that preserve the physiological occlusion and stability.
Other applications of digital dentistry in restorative , implantology, and how the process is digitally integrated from diagnostic all the way to execution on phase II.
